Stripped Form. Intentional Living.

Kitchen • Amhurst Road, Hackney, London, UK
Upper cabinets are replaced with open steel shelving. A prominent wall is clad in raw concrete panels. The kitchen island simplifies to a monolithic block. Each material and form states its fundamental purpose. Circulation paths remain direct and unencumbered. The space prompts an appreciation for essential design.
Every element states its true purpose.
Design Philosophy
This design follows an anti-decoration framework. It strips away the non-essential to reveal fundamental purpose. This is a minimalist inquiry, questioning the necessity of every item. The space promotes a direct appreciation for honest materials and clear forms.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye goes directly to the raw concrete wall. Movement flows unencumbered around the monolithic island. You sit on a stark, functional stool for focused tasks.
Light Study
Morning light enters broadly from the outdoor connection, illuminating surfaces directly. Task lighting focuses beams on work zones in the evening. Other areas remain in deliberate, functional shadow.
Living Vignette
Water runs over produce on the honed granite counter. The steel shelving holds only a few essential cooking tools.
Material Palette
Raw Concrete Panels: The surface feels rough and cool, gaining character as it patinas over time. Brushed Stainless Steel: This metal feels cool and smooth, showing subtle wear marks that add texture.
