10 5th Ave Dining Room — Grand Proportions design direction

Grand Dining: Exaggerated Scale

Dining Room • 10 5th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94118
A massive sculptural chandelier replaces the linear pendant. It commands the ceiling. One oversized armchair re-proportions the dining table. A multi-panel mirrored wall expands the room's perceived size. A thick pile rug anchors the new scale. The substantial dining table grounds these large elements. Each exaggerated piece compels attention. The room feels deliberately overstated.
This room uses scale to demand presence.
Design Philosophy
This design employs Deconstructive Scale. Elements are dramatically oversized, creating an Intentional Imbalance. The room compels attention through deliberate overstatement. It achieves a sense of wonder through exaggerated forms.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first goes to the massive chandelier, then to the oversized armchair. The mirrored wall reflects these elements, drawing you deeper into the room. You end up at the table, surrounded by deliberate scale.
Light Study
Morning light floods the mirrored wall, bouncing bright reflections deep into the room. As evening approaches, the chandelier casts a focused, dramatic glow on the table. This light emphasizes texture and shadow, creating depth.
Living Vignette
A clink of ice echoes as a glass is set down. The oversized armchair invites a long, unhurried conversation.
Material Palette
Monumental brass: It feels substantial and develops a rich patinated finish over time. Deep charcoal velvet: It feels rich and soft, gaining a natural sheen with age. Shaggy wool: It feels plush and deep underfoot, holding its texture through years of use.
