Dining Room • 1967 Green St, San Francisco, CA 94123
Deep ochre limewash covers all walls. This finish develops subtle mottling over time. Dining chairs are upholstered in full-grain saddle leather. The leather will soften and deepen with use. Unlacquered brass hardware will gain a unique verdigris patina.
A robust credenza features a raw, waxed wood top. This surface absorbs marks of use, adding character. The parquet floor, re-oiled, is ready to collect life's marks. A hand-knotted wool rug grounds the dining area with layered texture.
This room collects visible stories through its materials.
Design Philosophy
This design centers on **material biography**. Surfaces are chosen to visibly collect stories over time. We achieve **layered texture** through limewash, full-grain leather, and raw wood. **Time as a design element** allows oxidation and wear to deepen the room’s character, creating immediate depth.
Spatial Narrative
The eye goes first to the central dining setup. It then travels to the deep ochre limewash walls and the French doors beyond. The space draws you in to sit, then allows exploration of the credenza and its collected objects.
Light Study
Morning light streams in softly from the French doors, highlighting the limewash texture. As evening approaches, the unlacquered brass light fixtures cast a warm glow. This light emphasizes the deep tones of the leather and wood.
Living Vignette
A hand rests on the waxed wood credenza top, revealing a faint ring from a forgotten glass. Afternoon light catches the deepened grain of the saddle leather chairs, showing years of use.
