A dropped ceiling now lowers the gathering core, creating an intimate seating area. This section features a deep pile wool rug and darker upholstered fabrics. Expansive window areas remain clear, forming an open exterior gallery. Walls here are painted a lighter color, reflecting natural light.
Flooring changes clearly mark the connective passage, guiding movement. A tall, enclosing screen establishes a private reading alcove. This spot offers focused solitude. Wall washing illuminates periphery walls, emphasizing their full height.
Every area in this room has a clear, singular function.
Design Philosophy
The design uses Zoned Articulation to define distinct areas. Each zone offers a specific spatial experience. Sequential Experience guides movement through varied perceptions. Defined Volumes make every area's purpose explicit.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first lands on the compressed, intimate seating area. You walk along the open gallery past bright windows. You then move into the secluded reading alcove.
Light Study
Morning light floods the expansive window areas, brightening the gallery. Wall washing emphasizes the full height of periphery walls throughout the day. Evening light dims the gathering core, creating focused intimacy.
Living Vignette
A reader leans back in the armchair, shielded by the tall screen. The quiet corner holds a single book, pages open.
