Woven Enclosure: Softens Every Surface

Living Room • 2535 Vallejo St, San Francisco, CA 94123
A stretched acoustic fabric now obscures the coffered ceiling. It diffuses light and sound evenly across the entire room. Sections of dark wood paneling are covered with deep teal fabric panels. Heavy wool drapes provide light control and thermal insulation. Freestanding woven screens subtly divide the living space. All seating is re-upholstered in deeply textured fabrics. Layered jute and wool rugs define distinct zones. Each textile layer builds profound material comfort.
Every surface here delivers profound material comfort.
Design Philosophy
This design implements soft modernism by blurring architectural lines with fabric. Sensory layering builds an acoustically rich environment. Every textile surface contributes to material comfort. It redefines space through woven enclosure.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first lifts to the unified fabric ceiling, blurring architectural lines. It then drifts across upholstered wall sections and heavy drapes. You settle into a seating zone, contained by soft, textural boundaries.
Light Study
Morning light filters gently through heavy drapes, becoming diffused by the stretched fabric ceiling. In the evening, artificial sources cast a warm, contained glow. The layered fabrics absorb harshness, creating an even radiance.
Living Vignette
Fingers trace the deep texture of the velvet armrest while reaching for a book. The soft wall panels absorb the rustle of pages turning.
Material Palette
Stretched acoustic fabric: Stretched acoustic fabric feels smooth and slightly yielding; it retains its taut form for years. Heavy brushed wool: Heavy brushed wool feels dense and warm; it develops a soft patina with age. Woven rattan: Woven rattan feels firm and textured; it will lighten and gain character over time.
