Living Wall Transforms Dining Space

Dining Room • 439-443 Jersey St, San Francisco, CA 94114
A prominent living wall now covers the dining table wall. This feature brings a lush, living backdrop into the room. Bentwood and woven cane chairs replace previous seating. A linear fixture mimics natural skylight patterns overhead. Floor-level planters with natural stone accents guide movement. Subtle fractal patterns now detail the ceiling. This room immerses you in a naturally occurring, verdant environment. Every material choice reiterates an organic connection.
This room physically immerses you within a living, breathing natural environment.
Design Philosophy
This design employs Biophilic immersion to bring the outdoors inside. It uses Pleonasm by reiterating natural elements throughout the space. The goal is a deeply connected, naturally occurring environment. Every surface and object supports this organic narrative.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye goes directly to the expansive living wall behind the dining table. You walk along pathways defined by low-profile planters and river stone accents. Then you sit at the natural bentwood and cane dining set.
Light Study
Morning light streams in from the outdoor patio, illuminating the living wall's dew-kissed leaves. The linear fixture mimics a bright sky, providing full-spectrum light for plants and space. In the evening, this fixture casts soft, even illumination, maintaining a consistent natural glow.
Living Vignette
A guest reaches out to touch the cool, broad leaf of a plant on the living wall. The soft rustle of leaves provides a quiet backdrop to conversation.
Material Palette
Reclaimed wood: It feels sturdy and textured, developing a rich patina with use. Woven cane: It feels airy and flexible, gaining character as it subtly loosens over years.
