A false wall creates a constricted entry corridor. This space is low-lit and dark. A monumental concrete sculpture blocks the initial view. Its rough texture contrasts sharply with the approaching room.
Floor materials shift from raw concrete to polished dark wood. Directional spotlights highlight compressed zones. Semi-sheer drapery partially covers archways. This delays the full reveal of the expansive main room.
This room makes arrival a deliberate experience.
Design Philosophy
This design employs a Deconstructive Threshold to manipulate arrival. The space uses Episodic Spatial Storytelling to guide the visitor. A narrow, dark entry builds tension. It makes the subsequent reveal of the expansive living area feel earned.
Spatial Narrative
You enter a dark, narrow corridor. Your eye first catches the imposing concrete sculpture. Moving past it, the room opens, inviting you to the pale seating area.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through the partially draped arches. It gradually illuminates the expansive living area. Evening brings dramatic directional spotlights to the entry. These cast elongated shadows before diffused ambient light fills the main space.
Living Vignette
A guest steps through the narrow corridor. Their gaze lifts as the full height of the archways opens above them.
Material Palette
Raw concrete: This rough, cool surface anchors the entry. It will gain character with age and use.
Polished dark wood inlay: Its smooth, rich surface transitions the floor. It deepens in luster over time.
Pale cream linen upholstery: This soft, textured fabric provides comfort. It will soften and drape more fluidly with age.
Brushed brass accents: These fixtures add a subtle gleam. They will develop a natural patina over years.
