Whellock Road, Bedford Park, Chiswick Bathroom — Indigo Blooms design direction

Rich Hue, Gentle Forms

Bathroom • Whellock Road, Bedford Park, Chiswick, London, UK
This bathroom balances old world pattern with modern, clean lines. The eye is immediately drawn to the contrast between the richly patterned, botanical wallpaper and the sleek walnut vanity. A freestanding bathtub sits beneath a patterned tile accent wall, creating a focal point on the left.
A deep color palette transforms a functional space into something quite elegant.
Design Philosophy
The design pairs historical elements with a modern sensibility, grounding the space with organic materials and a color palette that feels both current and classic. By layering pattern and texture, the design achieves depth and visual interest, proving that even smaller rooms can be impactful. The aim appears to be to create a room that is both beautiful and functional, where one can enjoy the daily rituals of bathing and grooming.
Spatial Narrative
The room is organized around a central axis, with the window acting as a natural focal point. The bathtub anchors one side of the room, while the vanity stretches across the other. The floor plan seems efficient, maximizing the available space without feeling cramped.
Light Study
The room is bathed in soft, diffused natural light from the large window. The light reflects gently off the light colored tiles, as well as the clean white bathtub, creating a pleasant, even illumination. This is complemented by the warmer light coming from within the mirror cabinet.
Living Vignette
Steam rises from the warm bath, catching the light as someone reaches for a fluffy gray towel draped over the side. A fern sits on the vanity, its fronds catching the morning light.
Material Palette
Walnut: The smooth, matte finish of the walnut vanity brings warmth and a sense of groundedness to the room. Patterned Tile: Cool-toned, with aged textures, and an ornate floral design. It acts as a visual anchor. Woven Basket: The rough texture of the basket introduces an organic element and tactile contrast to the smooth surfaces around it.
